I would also suggest following this blog on Instagram for some of the prettiest bookish photos.

Brianna West.

Brianna is the author of the Promiscus Guardians Series, and the Guardian’s in Love Series. Her paranormal romance books are highly praised, and she has just been nominated for the 2016 Summer Indie Book Awards run by Metamorph Publishing.

The book I read in 2016 that I suggest you read is:

Getting To Know Me Tag!

I do love a good tag! Thanks to Mollie over at Mollie’s Musings for thinking of me. If you have not checked out Mollie’s blog, and you love everything writerly, bookish, cute, inspirational, and down right fabulous, then head on over and give her a follow!

This tag is self explanatory, so without further ado…

What is your middle name?

Technically, I don’t have one. My first name is hyphenated: Kayleigh-Jane.

What was your favourite subject at school?

English Lit and media studies.

What is your favourite drink?

Favourite food?

Devil’s Food Cake.

What is the last thing you bought?

For me, personally, I bought a shirt in the charity/ thrift shop. The very last thing I bought was a Tsum Tsum for my daughter. She collects the weird, little, wastes of money. Seriously, google them, they’re bizarre.

Is there anything I should know?

I developed hayfever this summer. My eyeball jelly swelled up and everything! (I have no idea what you actually call that stuff.)

Favourite colour?

Do you have any pets?

I have two dwarf hamsters called Lavender and Juno. They tried to kill each other, so now live in separate cages.

We also seem to collect garden snails. My daughter has a thing for making habitats, and tries to bring snails into the house. She found loads in my Nana’s garden, put them in a pot with grass and leaves, and left them in her kitchen- yep, they were in her fruit bowl in no time.

Favourite Perfume?

Hugo Boss Woman, but at the moment I’m wearing Rihanna’s Reb’l Fleur.

What was the last picture you took on your phone?

My hubby and our daughter rockpooling. They caught fish, shrimp, and sea snails. After a few pics, they’re all safely back in their pools.

Do you speak any other languages?

Hmmm? If I got lost in Spain I wouldn’t starve, but I’m not fluent.

How many siblings do you have?

I have one brother and two sisters. My sisters are half sisters, but I don’t call them that because they’re not half of anything in my eyes! I’m the eldest, and my fourteen year old sister thinks I’m ancient.

What is your favourite shop?

Book shops!!! My hubby would say charity shops because I just can’t walk by one without going in.

Favourite Restaurant?

Locally, we have a restaurant called BooKoos and they do the best burgers EVER. However, a short drive away, there is a farm called Roskillys. Roskillys has petting animals, nature trails, a restaurant that serves meat that has been reared on the farm, and they do the best ice cream in Cornwall!

What phone do you have?

Lumia something or other… I’m not really up on phones. It rings and texts, so I know that it works. I have a tardis phone case, though.

How tall are you?

I think I’m 5ft8 ish.

Can you cook?

Have you ever been stung by a bee?

Three times that I remember. My mum recalls some others. The most prominent memory is when my uncle was spinning me around by the wrists like Superman, and as he lowered my to the floor I knelt on a dying bee- ouch!

What is your best childhood memory?

I’m lucky to have many:

*Sliding down the stairs on a duvet with my brother.

*Boogie boarding at the beach.

*Going jumping (Jumping is the simple term we Cornish use for jumping from rocks and walls into the sea). We did it safely of course.

*Biking through the woods.

How can I not have great memories? I live here:

How would your friends describe you?

Monica! Not only do I love making lists and organising, I also get Hagrid hair in humid weather.

Watch TV or read?

Ebook of Paperback?

I have no preference. If I read an eBook and love it, then I will buy the paperback for my collection.

Plane or Train?

Train, but only because I have been on more trains in my life than planes.

What is your definition of family?

Why did you choose to be a writer?

I was born this way, baby!

Thanks again to Mollie for tagging me.

20 Facts About Me Tag

Thanks to Mollie over at ‘Mollie’s Musings’ for the tag. You can check out Mollie’s twenty facts here.

I haven’t done a tag in what feels like ages, so I jumped in guns blazing, and then realised that coming up with twenty semi-interesting facts about myself is damn hard.

Here goes nothing:

1) I have read and reviewed 30 books so far this year. I’m over half way to my Goodreads challenge target of 52!

2) I’m scared of geese. I was chased by some farm yard geese as a child and fell into a ditch full of cow s#*t. I was literally treading water in the stuff because it had been raining. I can still hear my Auntie shouting at me to keep my mouth closed- VOM!

That’s the face of a woman who is s*#ting herself, but proud to be in such close proximity to such a terrifying beast! Ha!

3) I was carrying a large box, and had a ‘one foot on the escalator and one foot off the escalator’ moment that saw me upside down and clinging on for dear life. Yep, I’m that girl.

4) I have an unhealthy obsession with Stephen King. The man is a genius.

5) My new author obsession is Brandon Sanderson. Seriously, check him out.

6) I turn 30 this year!

7) I can eat… A LOT.

In my defense, I thought they were side plates, but I didn’t let them defeat me. The waitor did bring out an extra set of cutlery thinking there were 3 people at our table… Yep, my hubby has his own meal- those are all mine!

8) Other than Twitter, my favourite social media platform is Instagram! Find me over there: KJ’s Insta!   *Shameless Insta-promotion right there and I’m not even sorry.*

9) My husband and I have GIF wars whilst he is at work- shhh! He always wins. That man can source some GIFs! *That’s where I get my training for my Twitter GIF wars- just saying.*

10) My surname is actually Osborne. I wrote EVO Nation, and started my author platforms, before I got married. After some thought, I decided to stick with my author name to avoid confusion.

K AND N 11 DEC 2015 020
This is one of my fave wedding photos because our daughter’s little face says, ‘I’m so proud’, and my face says, ‘I’ve got you now, Sucker! Mwahaha!’

11) I live in Poldark country. I’m Cornish, and yes, I say things like- ‘I’ll do it dreckly,’ and ‘Bleddy ansom.’

12) I once saw Christopher Eccleston and he smiled at me because I recognised him, even though my hubby thought he was a tramp. In my hubby’s defense, Eccleston was in full hobo mode.

13) I am prone to stubbing my toes. I have lost my baby toe nails three times on each foot.

14) I only keep physical copies of books that I rate 4* or more, or that I have a complete series of. It’s a brutal method, but necessary for my small house.

15) I’m forgetful. My five year old makes me write everything into my diary, or make a list before we go shopping. Even my friends notice my forgetfulness. It was a charity day at my daughter’s school and the children who wore fancy dress had to donate £1 to the charity. My friend brought an extra £1 because she thought I’d forget. Ha! That time I had remembered because- thanks to my daughter- I had noted it in my diary. I can’t say I’ve remembered every time since…

16) My last fancy dress costume was of a scarecrow. I was helping at an event held by my daughter’s old nursery school on Halloween.

I was featured in the local newspaper looking like this.

17) We are a family of geocachers. It’s so much fun. Don’t knock it until you try it. Us geocachers are a covert bunch, so I shall say no more… but seriously, google it!

18) Once, I heard a strange noise outside my window in the middle of the night. I thought that something was dying out there. When I went to investigate, I found hedgehogs having sex. Have you ever heard the sound of hedgehogs having sex?! I can never unhear that!

19) I love notebooks. I buy notebooks. Other people buy me notebooks. I get given notebooks. It’s both beautiful and disturbing.

I don’t leave the house without one of these babies!

20) After re-reading the above 19 facts, I have decided that I am a little cray cray!

I hope you have learnt something new about me (there is plenty to pick from). I know a lot of people have been nominated in this tag already, so I shall extend an open invite to those who want to join in.

Baring Your Soul Tag

I was tagged by Holly Evans to answer her ‘Baring Your Soul’ post questions. This tag has been created by Holly herself. Head on over to check out Holly’s blog.

Carry on reading if you want a little insight into the life of KJ…

  • What’s your biggest fear?

Losing someone I love. Oh, and moths. I hate those winged, buggy freaks.

  • What’s your happiest memory?

I have two. The day my daughter, Sophie, was born, and the day I married my childhood sweetheart.

  • What’s your five year plan?

Writing related: Completing my EVO Nation series, and the second series I have in the works.

  • What’s your favourite non-sexual intimate contact?

I like a good hug. You can tell a lot about a person by the way they hug.

  • What’s your dream date- money no issue?

Going to see the Aurora Borealis. I desperately want to see it. I know the hubby would love it too.

  • What’s your song?

I’ve never really thought about it. I guess, everyone’s song should be ‘I am what I am’ by Shirley Bassey. Check out the song here.

  • What’s the most amazing thing someone has said about you?

On my hen night we played the Mr & Mrs game. My hens had pre-asked my hubby questions, and then I had to guess his answers correctly. They asked him to pick one word to describe his wife to be. I chose bubbley, but no, he chose perfect. Needless to say there was a resounding ‘Awwwwwww’ as all the women in the room melted. *blushes*

  • If you could have any possible super power, what would you chose?

I have answered a similar question to this before, and the answer is still the same. The ability to bring my characters to life.

  • What’s your guilty pleasure film?

Dirty dancing EVERY time.

  • What’s your best physical feature?

I always get uncomfortable answering these sorts of questions. I’d say my eyes, but my hubby always says my smile. The best smiles end in the eyes, anyhow.

  • If you could be remembered for one personality trait, what would you want that to be?

Kindness. If this was Divergent, I’d be in Amity.

  • What are your non-writing/book related hobbies?

Spending time with the family. If I’m not writing, I’m being Mummy and wife. We are always out on rambles, discovering new walks and beaches etc. The joys of living in Cornwall, England.

  • What does an ideal night out look like to you?

Meal and/or cinema, followed by a night of drinks and dancing.

  • What’s the biggest risk you ever took- did it pay off?

I lost my job (a job I hated and where I was made to cry on more than one occasion). So, I needed a new job urgently. I applied for the only vacancy available in my area- health care worker. I got the job, started work, and absolutely loved it. It was supposed to be temporary, but I was there for nearly four years until I had my daugther. I made it to Senior Carer (supervisor). I’d have never known how rewarding that type of job could be if I didn’t make that call.

I’m not sure who has been tagged in this tag, so I shall offer an open invitation to anyone who wants to join in. Remember to link back to Holly’s original tag when you do.

Seven Deadly Sins Tag

I have been tagged in this Friday fun post by Al over at Hyperactive Pandemonium. Thanks for the tag Al! I’m up for a little KJ.Chapman insight…

The following questions are based on the seven deadly sins, and are relevant to reading and writing.

Pride. Share a line or small scene that you’re really proud to have written.

“Your hatred is all your own. It was yours to let go, just as it was yours to nurture into this evil that has enabled you to murder your own family.”

Envy. Tell us about the book you wish that’d you written.

I have to say my favourite book: Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte.

Wrath. Tell us about a trope or cliche that makes you furious.

Damsels in distress- bleurgh!

Gluttony. Tell us about a trope you just can’t get enough of.

Paranormal/ supernatural romance- brooding hunks. Steamy, but easy reads.

Lust. Tell us about a character you’d do unspeakable things to.

Seeing as I have been reading Brianna West’s paranormal romances of late, I shall say Lucas & Victor. (See  the above sin)

Sloth. Tell us about your favourite form of procrastination.

Social media of course.

Greed. Tell us which author’s top of your auto-buy list.

Stephen King, Kristin Cast, Kami Garcia… to name a few.

I am tagging Brianna West to have a go at this tag.

Thanks again for the tag, Al, and I hope it gives a better insight into the reading and writing habits of moi.

The Confessions of a Writer

Claire over at Art and Soul tagged me in this fabulous new tag: The Confession of a Writer Tag. Thank you for thinking of me Claire, and I hope you enjoy my answers.

The Confessions of a Writer Tag was created by Nicolette at A Little Bookish, A Little Writerly. It is a ‘get-to-know’ the writer interview tag, dedicated to spotlighting the creative process, works in progress, and connecting to other writers.

Rules of the Tag:

  • Please link back to A Little Bookish, A Little Writerly’s post, so that the original rules are always accessible to anyone who is curious and wants to participate!
  • Acknowledge the person who tagged you in your post.
  • Tag your friends and fellow writers – it’s up to you how many!

The Questions and My Answers:

1.When did you first start writing? Was being a writer something you always aspired to be?

I remember reading Charlotte’s Web as a child, and then having it read to me again during story time at primary school. I loved that book dearly and I believe that was when I decided I wanted to create my own stories and worlds.

2. What genre do you write?

I enjoy reading and writing YA, NA, science fiction, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance. That’s not to say I wont write in a different genre, but as of yet, the inspiration hasn’t called to me.

3. Can you tell us a little about your current work in progress? When did you start working on this project?

I’m currently working on book two in the EVO Nation Series, EVO Shift. I started this project in June 2015 after self-publishing book one, EVO Nation. I also have a little non-fiction project I am quietly working on.

4. What was your first piece that you can remember writing? What was it about?

I actually have a piece that I wrote whilst at primary school. It’s a rewrite of Little Red Riding Hood, and instead of a big bad wolf there are human flesh eating dragons called Morice and Norice. My mum kept it all those years and found it last year. We were in tears reading it. T’was a funny read. (I even drew a picture)…

5. What’s the best part about writing?

Creating something from nothing. I love the freedom of the worlds I create. I can fill it with whomever I want, and disappear into it whenever I want.

6. What’s the worst part about writing?

Time constraints. I have a family and they take priority, but you can bet your last quid that I get an idea or spark of inspiration when I have no possible chance at sitting down for five minutes to write it down or get started.

7. What’s the name of your favorite character and why? (This can be from a book by another author or from your own work. Book crushes are perfectly acceptable here as well.)

Jane Eyre. It’s due to her intellect, her independence, and the sheer fact that she knows herself. As a teen, when I first read this book, she resonated with me.

8. How much time a day/week do you get to write? When is the best time for you to write (morning or night)?

It’s hard to say. Can I answer with- as much as I can and whenever I can? Yep, that sounds about right.

9. Did you go to college for writing? Or if you haven’t been to college yet, do you plan to?

I didn’t study writing at college, I studied… wait for it… business studies. When I left college I got a job using my qualifications and I hated it with a passion. The managers were total assholes and I left work crying on more than one occasion. The day I left was the same day I found another job as a health care assistant at a care home. Writing is my passion and I will slog it out until I can make it my full-time career.

10. What bothers you more: spelling errors, punctuation errors, or grammar errors?

They all do, but it’s amazing how blinded we are against our own errors.

11. What is the best writing advice that anyone has given you?

To write the first draft, and then start the editing process.

12What advice would you give to another writer?

If you want to write professionally you must start to build up your web presence ie blogs, social media etc. Start before you’ve even published/self-published your book.

13. What are your favorite writing sites or blogs that you turn to for help, tips or encouragement?

I find other bloggers in similar situations to myself offer the best advice and tips. It’s nice to read something and think, ‘Phew, I’m not the only one.‘ I have too many to mention here, but I’d urge every writer to get in on the blogging community as soon as possible.

14. Besides writing, what else do you enjoy doing? What are your hobbies?

I’m a fan girl, and my interests are Dr Who, Firefly, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and anything Marvel. I guess I watch a lot of TV/ films.

15. What is the best book you’ve read this year?

The Girl in Between by Laeken Zea Kemp. I posted a review on this book. It is currently FREE on Amazon and well worth a download.

16. What is the best movie you’ve seen this year?

Mad Max was a total trip, but I loved it, and of course… Avengers: Age of Ultron.

17. What is your favorite book or series of all time?

I would say my favourite book is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. I am a sucker for the Harry Potter Series too.

18. Who is your favorite author?

Wow, how to answer that? I have favourites for different reasons: Stephen King, JK Rowling, Jane Austen, Markus Zusak, John Green, Anita Shreve, Anne Rice, Alice Sebold, Charlotte Bronte, Daphne Du Maurier, Kami Garcia, Marie Lu, Garth Nix.

19. What are your plans for the rest of the year in terms of your writing?

I plan to crack on with EVO Shift, and hopefully finish my side project by Christmas… watch this space.

20. Where else can we find you online?

I look forward to seeing your answers.
