EVO Ghost, Writing and Me

Muse-ic

book-review7

What have I been listening to whilst researching and taking notes for EVO Ghost? Well, one song in particular is drawing my attention of late. This is not a new song to me or the EVO Nation series. I have listened to this song during the drafting of books one and two, and now, it is making an appearance again for EVO Ghost.

The lyrics for this could have been written for EVO Ghost. The theme of fighting for your life is important in both this song and my book.

Death surrounds
My heartbeat’s slowing down
I won’t take this world’s abuse
I won’t give up or refuse
This is how it feels when you’re bent and broken
This is how it feels when your dignity’s stolen
When everything you love is leaving
You hold on to what you believe in

What is on your writing playlist? Are there any go to songs that inspire you regardless of how many times you’ve heard them?

EVO Ghost: Writing Playlist

Creating a playlist for the drafting process of each novel is a big thing of mine. Music helps set tone, pace, and emotion to name a few. Sometimes, you only know what you’re thinking, or what you want to write, once you’ve listened to a certain song. Click the links to listen to the playlists for EVO Nation and EVO Shift.

My drafting playlist for EVO Ghost:

Yes, I love Sia!

I need to just add that the opening lines to’Fight Song’ gave me actual goosepimples. ‘Like a small boat in the ocean, sending big waves into motion.’ EVO Nation readers will understand my being in awe of this line considering the start of book one. Such a perfect summary!

There is a story here: 30/30-150 was the song I was listening to when EVO Nation was just a seed of an idea many years ago. I think this song could have set the tone for the whole series. EVO Nation series readers, what do you reckon?

My Current Muse-ic!

I’ve have been listening to a lot of ‘Panic! At The Disco’ this week. I’m currently about 15k words deep into the first draft of the final book in my EVO Nation series. This book is a story of epic proportions: war, love, power, and more importantly, comeuppances.

This song is perfect for reminding me that my MC deserves to dish out some just desserts. I haven’t been all that nice to her in the first two books, but now it’s payback time…

The Emperor’s New Clothes by Panic! At The Disco

(Finders keepers, losers weepers)

Welcome to the end of eras
Ice has melted back to life
Done my time and served my sentence
Dress me up and watch me die
If it feels good, tastes good
It must be mine
Dynasty decapitated
You just might see a ghost tonight

And if you don’t know, now you know

I’m taking back the crown
I’m all dressed up and naked
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah
The crown…
So close I can taste it
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah

Sycophants on velvet sofas
Lavish mansions, vintage wine
I am so much more than royal
Snatch your chain and mace your eyes
If it feels good, tastes good
It must be mine
Heroes always get remembered
But you know legends never die

And if you don’t know, now you know

I’m taking back the crown
I’m all dressed up and naked
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah
The crown
So close I can taste it
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah

Mortal kings are ruling castles
Welcome to my world of fun
Liars settle into sockets
Flip the switch and watch them run

Oh, yeah, oh
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
I’m taking back, back, taking back, back
The crown
I’m all dressed up and naked
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah
The crown
So close I can taste it
I see what’s mine and take it
(Finders keepers, losers weepers)
Oh, yeah

the-playlist-shuffle-tag-image

A massive thank you to Claire over at Art and Soul for tagging me in the Playlist Shuffle Tag, and for the great EVO Shift release date shout out. I’m more than a little keen to partake in this tag. I love the idea of having a peek at what my fellow blogger’s have on their playlists because I am nosey like that. Check out Claire’s playlist here.

The rules of this tag:

Put your music playlist on shuffle and list the first 15 songs to play (no cheating), then tag 10 others to do it as well.

I am going to use my Youtube playlist for this tag, so here it goes:

  1. My Chemical Romance: Desolation Row
  2. Panic! At The Disco: Emperor’s New Clothes
  3. Muse: Psycho
  4. Paloma Faith: Picking Up The Pieces
  5. ACDC: Thunderstruck
  6. Newton Faulkner: She’s Got The Time
  7. Jamie T: Sticks and Stones
  8. John Newman: Losing Sleep
  9. Artic Monkeys: Mardy Bum
  10. Rihanna: Russian Roulette
  11. Lady Gaga: You and I
  12. Ella Henderson: Yours
  13. Eminem: Space Bound
  14. Ray Lamontagne: Trouble
  15. Frank Turner: Heartless Bastard Motherfucker

Some of these songs are on my playlist because they’re my favourites, some because they have been inspiration for my EVO Nation Series.

The rules say to tag 10 others, but I have seen quite a few of my blogging community have already been tagged in this tag before. If my tags have been tagged already- oh well.

My Tags:

I look forward to having a sneaky peek at your playlists. Have fun!

Playlist for EVO Shift

EVO Shift is book two in the EVO Nation Series. When writing book one, EVO Nation, I used music as my motivation and inspiration. I am a lover of music, so it felt natural that I would write accompanied by a playlist to draw on certain emotions, or recall past memories.

I have previously blogged about my playlist for EVO Nation, and now that I’m fully absorbed in the writing of EVO Shift, I thought it only natural to compile my playlist for my current writing process.

It’s illuminating to see my playlist written down. I note definite tones and messages that relate to the tones and messages in my novel. The power of music in relation to creativity is almighty.
