August Update

This month has been a bizarre one, what with the kids being off school, me taking a writing hiatus, yet at the same time, joining the #authortoolboxbloghop.

Let me break down my month for you:

Writing

As you may know, I was struggling to get anything written with my daughter off school and my 1 year old son to entertain. I was feeling guilty for not having written, and I decided a hiatus was what I needed for the holidays. It seems that knowing I don’t have to write takes away the guilt of not doing it. I’m still on my hiatus until Sept 5th.

Blogging

My hiatus didn’t extend to Writerly Bookish Stuff. I still posted my First Draft series each week, but with the hiatus, I had no new teasers for my Teaser Tuesday posts.

However, I was approached by Raimey Gallant to join the Author Toolbox Blog Hop every 3rd Wednesday of the month, and I jumped at the chance. Keep your eyes peeled for those posts.

Reading

I read a lot of short stories this month, and I reviewed them in 2 posts.

3 in 1 Book Review Part 1

3 in 1 Book Review Part 2

What’s Next?

First things first, I shall be setting back to writing Zombies and Budgie Smugglers. I am being kinder on myself and not setting a deadline. It will be done when it is done.

I shall continue on with #authortoolboxbloghop . This month’s post will be joined with my First Draft series post as the concept is the same: writing tips and advice.

I am currently reading Girl Online by Zoe Sugg. I need to give myself more reading time as I let it fall to the bottom of my to do list.

June Update

June is fast becoming a fleeting memory. Seriously, it just whizzed by. However, my family and I did have a lovely mini break at a holiday park, so thumbs up to June.

Reading

I have been in a reading slump of late, so I chose to read non fiction in June.

I read 3 short books on frugal living/ cooking. I did a 3 in 1 book review that you can find here.

Writing

I’ve still been plodding along with Zombies and Budgie Smugglers. Now that I have signed up for July’s CampNaNo, I know I should be finished (or very close to) by August. CampNaNo is great at motivating me.

Blogging

The Character Interview series came to an end on Wednesday. I have been spending the last 2 weeks, writing and scheduling my next series that will start on July 17th. There will be more on that series in an upcoming post.

What’s Next?

Like I said, I’m doing CampNaNo in July. 9k words is my goal. If things go well, there may be a cover and blurb reveal soon.

I hope to read at least 1 novel during July and a couple more non fiction books. I am behind on my Goodreads challenge, and I can’t stand it.

Stay tuned for my new blog series update.

April Update

We’re already 2 days into May and I have only just remembered to post this update… Says it all.

May is busy for me. Like, super busy. My little boy turns one, but not before he is Christened. My daughter is dancing the Flora once again. If you have not heard of the Flora dance in Cornwall, google it! So, there is lots of organising for me to sort.

Anyway, I shall let you know how the month of April went…

Writing

As you may already know, I am a CampNaNo winner. Whoop! I wrote a small amount everyday to hit 6k words. I shall continue on with my small targets as this works well for me. I might start posting daily word counts to my Instagram stories.

Blogging

I’m well into my Character Interview posts. Yesterday’s post was an interview with a favourite of mine, Adam Lovick. I hope you are enjoying the posts and getting to know my characters some more.

I haven’t even started looking at the next series, yet. I usually like to schedule ahead of time, but I’m barely getting current blog posts live on time. That’s just life I guess.

Reading

I read nothing! Zilch! I reckon that is a first for me. With NaNo and adulting, reading came last. I’m a bed time reader, but during April I was falling into bed like a zombie.

My current read is Some Kind of Wonderful by Giovanna Fletcher. I might save it for the summer and crack on with some non fiction in May.

Coming Up

There will be a blog post next week explaining a little idea I’m deciding on to do with how I edit. Stay tuned.

March Update

March has been a strange one. On a personal front, I have been productive. Lots of things have been planned and organised, and we’re steaming ahead into spring. My writing, however, has floundered yet again.

Writing

Floundered is the right word. I feel like I’m treading water – badly – with my WIP, Zombies and Budgie Smugglers. (If you missed the title reveal, that is what it will be called.)

It’s not that I don’t know where I want to take it, but that I have been fixing a plot hole before CampNaNo starts on April 1st. I think I’ve been slacking with the writing because I know I have the motivation of NaNo to come.

Reading

This month I finished one book, and I am half way through another. I buddy read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas with Sarina Langer and Alyssa Victoria. We all gave it 5*. It is such an important book, and I highly recommend it.

Find my review here.

Blog

I have announced all three of my remaining blog series for 2019. Of course, it’s with thanks to those of you who got in touch with ideas on what you wanted to see.

First up, is the character interview series starting on April 10th. This will run for ten weeks.

Then, we will have a series all about writing the first draft, followed up with a picture prompt series.

CampNaNo

Yes, I signed up despite being adamant I wasn’t going to. I need the motivation, and I have joined a cabin of writer friends to hold me accountable. I shall post weekly updates on a Sunday about my NaNo journey.

Update 26/10/28

Writing

October, where have you gone?

Along with planning a Harry Potter party for my daughter in November, a chest infection, weaning my baby, and reading, I have managed some writing sessions. I didn’t reach massive word counts, but I’m back in the swing of it, especially now I have started drafting on my phone. Why didn’t I think to do this before?

You never know, I might have a WIP teaser to share in November’s update…

Reading

Once again, it has been a month of short reads. Big reads need time and investment- I have neither. However, I hit my 40 books Goodreads challenge this month.

Here are the links to my October reads:

What the Dead Fear by Lea Ryan

Book Idea Generator by James Green

Virus the Unknown by Larry Finhouse

Kindle Income by Alex Foster

Blogging

Just yesterday I hit a fantastic milestone! 500 followers. I’m so grateful to all my new and old followers for clicking that follow button for my little, ol’ blog.

What’s Coming Up?

Oh, you mean apart from my daughter’s birthday and getting ready for Christmas? Yes, you did hear me right. Christmas is just around the corner, so much so our town’s Christmas lights turn on is Nov 30th, and guess what? We put our decs up when the lights are turned on. It has become a bit of a tradition. Not forgetting, I have a 2nd child now, and in this house that means a 2nd elf has to come and stay from December 1st.

I’m also sorting my children’s advent calendars in November. Last year, I made a lucky dip for my daughter. This year, both kids are getting 24 books- one a day until Christmas eve. No, they’re not brand new books. Charity shop books have the same stories in them 😉, and cost a fraction of the price.

Other than that, I hope to get in a few more decent writing sessions, and I’m planning some different blog posts for the New Year.

Update 28/09/18

Writing Side of Things

I had hoped to find some more writing time now that my daughter is back at school, but adulting, mummy duties to my four month old, and catching up with old friends has meant only one writing session successfully took place. However, my new marketing schedule has gone well. I’ve seen an increase in Instagram followers, and a big increase in interaction on my blog.

Reading

It has been a non fiction month of reads for me. I’ve read a fair amount of writing based and book marketing ebooks, but no fiction. I plan to change that in October.

Here are the links to my reviews:

How to Make Money Blogging by Bob Lotich

Write What Sells by Alex Foster

Writing a Book a Week by Alex Foster

Kindle Reviews by Alex Foster

Coming Up

I have a couple of guest posts to finish and send. It has been a long while since I’ve been hosted on another blog, so I’m looking forward to it.

I’m open to more guest posts if any of the bloggers among you are interested.

Seeing as Halloween is fast approaching, I have scheduled a free promotion for Zombie Playlist from Oct 1st- 5th.

Writing and Me

Update 03/10/17

book-review8

Last month, I was relieved to be able to get back to editing after an unproductive summer. This month, I’ve been lazy. I am literally a writing sloth at the moment. In fact, I’m just a sloth in every aspect of life. You know what? I’m not even ashamed.

EVO Ghost

I’m about 60% through the structural edit. I wanted to be finished with this edit, well into the line edits, and much closer to finalising a release date. If I release this year, I’ll be surprised… extremely surprised.

However, here’s what I have been listening to when I have sat my bum down to edit. This song could have been written as the EVO Nation theme song!

Zombie Playlist Paperback

The end of September goal would have been realistic if I did any formatting. In truth, I haven’t even opened the file this month. There’s always October.

On a different note, Zombie Playlist is on a price promotion from the 5th until the 12th. Get your ecopy for 99p.

Social Media

You know those months where you can’t be assed with the internet? I had that month. Instagram in particular was annoying me. I gave up on my September reading challenges because it felt like it was becoming a chore. I have over ten tags to catch up on, and other than blog related posts, I haven’t been actively posting like I normally do. I’m sure a break from daily posting will help. I’m quite happy to sit back and peruse everyone else’s posts.

Blog Guest Posts

The guest posts are the highlight of my September. Did you catch the posts by Dana Fraedrich and Faith Rivens? If you need advice on world building or beating procrastination, then follow these links:

Dana Fraedrich on World Building.

Faith Rivens on Beating Procrastination.

Katie Masters is stopping by on Friday to offer some tips on creating well rounded antagonists, and Sarina Langer is joining me on Friday 22nd to educate us in all things bullet journals. Keep your eyes peeled.

What’s Next?

Next, I do everything I didn’t do last month… or at least attempt to. There’s a lot going on at the moment, and juggling everything is hard. Even finding reading time is proving difficult. Who knows? Maybe I’ll have a sudden surge of motivation.

I hope you all have a productive month whatever your goals may be.
