Resurrection (Promiscus Guardians Book 4) by Brianna West 5/5

Thank you to the author for giving me an advanced ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

Review:

Izzy’s wit and humour when it comes to fighting demons is pushed to the limits when she has to team up with one to protect her loved ones, and hopefully, see an end to Mother Dearest. Can she work together with an enemy whilst dealing with a bombshell of a new development? Is there a happily ever after on the cards for her and beau, Lucas?

I can’t believe we’re already at the finale of Izzy and Lucas’ story. It’s been a fast, gripping ride, and although I’m sad that it is over, I can take solace in the fact that West has multiple spin offs set in the Promiscus Guardian’s world. Phew!

Izzy’s quick-witted inner dialogue and brooding inner monologue has seen me laughing through all four books. She is light relief to an action packed, dark narrative. It’s refreshing to read a strong female heroine who still falls over in high-heels, has sarcasm enough for twenty, and can appreciate some eye candy.

The narrative has developed over the four books to include Izzy’s training, her need to prove herself, and her journey to become friend, wife, and demon killer. From the confused woman happening upon two intimidating guardians in a dark alley, to the demon slayer and bad-ass Guardian in book four, Izzy has kept her humour throughout, and remains true to herself.

Paranormal fans will love not only Izzy and Lucas, but the vast array of unique and loveable characters in this series, and will be happy to know that most will be featuring in their own steamy stories in the Guardians in Love spin offs.

Guest Post: Brianna West on Character Development

book-review

Joining us today for a humour packed guest post on the importance of character develoment is the wonderfully talented author, Brianna West.

The Joys of Authorhood: Raising Fully Developed Characters

Hello all aspiring and current authors desperate to figure out how to fully raise your characters into complex, well-developed, functioning-in-plot characters! I’ve come here because I was once like you: scared, unsure, slightly crazier than normal people and talking to all the voices in my head. The characters whose names you need to figure out, whose personalities aren’t complex enough, aren’t realistic enough to be featured in your current or maybe not even your future work.

Don’t be discouraged! I’ve come to give you my experience with how to raise fully functioning, story-ready characters and how to develop them over the course of your work in progress.

First things first, whether you plot your story out, outlining every detail, or you just write where your characters lead you, guiding when need be, characters that aren’t fully developed can sometimes cause a story not to feel real or read as well as one that has characters fully realized.

  1. Aw, he’s got your morbid sense of humor—get to know what their personality is. This is something I tend to do when I’m “imagining” how I want interactions to go. Whether or not the two characters would fit together with certain aspects of their personality. It’s a good time to figure out what characteristics you might want from them. Are they quirky, broody, moody, playful, quiet, and so on so forth. It’s important to get to know them and figure out where their personality needs improvement or adjustment.
  2. Playdates are fun until someone’s kid gets killed—there’s been a time or two where I’ve been unable to fully grasp an interaction between two, mostly because I haven’t really written them before or it’s been a while. So, giving them a test run in a small written interaction might help tighten up some of the aspects you were hoping to achieve or where they could change when dealing with other characters.
  3. Scarred for life—backstory is something you can get away with not knowing much of to begin with, having it develop over the course of a story and getting to know their history as the story unfolds. But it’s a good idea to have some sort of idea where you want your character to have come from, even if just that their daddy was a drunk and their mommy a drug-dealer.
  4. Growing up sucks, but it’s great for plot—the most important is the growing and changing of a character over the course of a story or series. Seeing them change as it goes along, reacting and transforming due to encounters, other characters etc., it gives the reader a sense of knowing them and real-time movement that builds a relationship with the readers that all the above doesn’t build in such an intense way.

These are just a few things to think about when dealing with character development, but in the course of my authorhood, the most important. Hopefully these help you raise well-developed, happy characters and not angry, superficial serial killer characters that spend their life blaming their author (unless that’s what you were going for).

Happy Writing!

Brianna West.

Blog Tour Stop! Welcome to Brianna West

trés cool

briannaWoohoo! Guess who I get to host today on their book release blog tour?… Brianna West, that’s who! Her latest book, Pavel, book two in the Guardians in Love series, is out today!!! If you follow my reads and reviews, you will know that I’m a huge fan of Brianna’s novels. Guardians in Love is a spin off series that runs smoothly alongside Brianna’s highly acclaimed Promiscus Guardians series.

I have had the pleasure of interviewing Brianna before- check out the interview here. Today, we are talking all things Pavel, hunks, bad ass heroines, and the next step. So, buckle in…

Firstly, let me introduce you to the book of the hour: Pavel!

30978632Eve’s entire existence and the secret power she harbors is forever changed when she meets the incredibly gorgeous Russian, Pavel Volkov, one night after he single-handedly saves her from being attacked. Claiming he’s part of an elite group of Guardians that police the Light and Dark, Pavel takes her into his protection.

The playboy warlock-faerie helps Eve unlock the secrets of her past, training the hidden power within as they attempt to keep her from the Dark that seeks to capture her. But with nothing short of disdain for the man claiming to be her protector, can Eve discover the truth behind who she really is? Will she be able to learn how to use her powers efficiently? And more importantly, will she be able to deflect the relentless advances of her so-called protector?

I was lucky to be an ARC reviewer for Pavel and gave it a massive 5* rating. Check out my review here.  You can buy your copy from Amazon today, this minute, right now! Just follow the link: Buy Pavel now!

Welcome! Thank you for stopping by today. Tell us a little bit about the Guardians in Love series.

The Guardians In Love Series is all about the secondary characters from the Promiscus Guardians series and their love stories. Each book can be read separately, however, the spin off series runs along the main series (for right now) and adds extra depth to the main story.

Pavel has been highly anticipated by your readers. Why do you think this book in particular has been so sought after?

Simply, it’s all about Pavel. I joke that it’s either #TeamLucas or #TeamPavel for my books because of their highly contrasting personalities. Pavel is a sexy Russian with sticky hands and a playful nature. He’s the entire reason that this book is so sought after.

What can readers expect from not only Pavel, but also book one in the series, Victor?

They can expect to find a new book boyfriend of a high quality as well as a kickass heroine and their story. Each book is unique in its storyline but offers something for the main series as well. Each hunk is drool-worthy and will not disappoint. You’ll have a difficult time choosing who you truly love at the end of my series.

Would you share a Pavel teaser with us? Pretty please.

pavel1.3

Do you have an idea of how many books shall be included in the Guardians in Love series?

Currently, there’s no set number. I like delving into the many different characters and their possible love interests. I’ll probably continue to add long after the Promiscus Guardians series concludes!

Who’s next? Which character is under the spotlight in the next book?

Wouldn’t you like to know! Honestly, I’m still going between a few characters that I’d like to delve into. There’s idiot and fun-loving Bernie, as well as slightly sadistic but always perfectly authoritative Simon. There’s also a few people that are curious about the princes in the main series, which may be its own spin off series altogether, who knows?

What is next in store for Brianna West?

Next is the final book in the main series. The hot tamale I’ve been planning this entire year. The final frontier…and all that crap. You can expect that the next book will tie up everything in the main series and leave you desperate to never say goodbye to Izzy and Lucas and their fun-loving Guardian crew.

A big thanks to Brianna West, and all the best for the remainder of your blog tour!

Review:

Brianna West has done it again. Have I mentioned that I am a huge fan of West’s Promiscus Guardian’s series, and now the spin off series, Guardian’s in Love? Well, I am, and book two in the Guardian’s in Love series, Pavel, did not disappoint.

I have been desperate to get my hands on a copy of this ARC because its focus is on one of the flirty, loveable characters from the Promiscus Guardian’s series, Pavel, who needed a healthy dose of real love. I’m an old romantic at heart and wanted him to get a strong minded, level headed girl who could win his heart. The cat and mouse chase between Pavel and Eve kept the pages turning- REALLY fast.

The narrative is told from Eve’s POV, and I enjoyed seeing her character develop over the course of the story, and how she overcomes her own relationship fears to fall for my loveable rogue *hehe*. Seriously, that’s how you feel about these characters; you get sucked into their world and root for them all. I know that more than one reader has claimed dibs on certain characters as their fictional boyfriends. Oh, the choices! Us paranormal romance fans can be a possessive, die hard bunch. Also, if head angel, Simon, ever finds true love, I hope she is a Cornish brunette, perhaps called KJ.

As usual, West packs in oodles of hunks, kick ass heroines, love, sex, and fight scenes. Oh, and not forgetting Bernie and his t-shirts. (Another man in need of a sweetheart…Brianna West, do you hear me?)

If you enjoy the paranormal, steamy scenes, fast paced action, and a lot of love. Get reading West’s novels!

ARC Review: Dawning by Brianna West

I have had the great pleasure of reading an ARC of Dawning by Brianna West. I have been patiently waiting for this book, book three in the Promiscus Gaurdians series, and I was not disappointed.

Check out my reviews of the first two books in the series here: Awakening and Metamorphosis. West also has a spin off series, Guardians in Love. Check out my review of the first book in the series here: Victor.

Dawning (Promiscus Guardians Series Book Three) by Brianna West 5/5

15139279_1339022859482461_320764885_nBlurb:

Izzy and Lucas have been through quite the ordeal over the last year: chased down by demons, hunted by Dark angels, and sought after by a sadistic, gorgeous mother-in-law. Now they’re back, and there’s a lot of loose ends to tie up. Like the army of juiced up toddlers, the flamboyant villain, and the sociopath, Mother Dearest. Not to mention, it’s now their sole duty to seek the help of the seven kings in the In-Between realm, which sounds easier than it is.

Dawning follows Izzy as she is once again the woman of the hour, the woman who can bring the realms together, the woman with that special something-something that everyone, including her vindictive, crazy mother-in-law, are working tirelessly to capture. Being special never felt like so much work. Saving the world was never something Izzy planned to do, but she’ll have to if she doesn’t want the mortal world to end, or any others for that matter.

My Review:

The fight against the dark stepped up a notch in this book. On top of sadistic kings from other realms, demon kids, dark angels, and evil mother in laws, there are dragons- yep, dragons! The action in this book was brilliantly paced and allows the main character, Izzy, to up her game, kick ass, and prove to her Vampire- Angel Beau, Lucas, that she is one tough cookie.

The relationship dynamic between Izzy and Lucas is tested in book three and for the better. Izzy, who has been in a constant power struggle with protective, but loving Lucas, has more than one opportunity to prove herself capable, and there are positive relationship developments in that respect. I was fist pumping the air like, ‘you go girl’ and ‘about time, but way to go, Lucas!’

There is a third wheel in the relationship and that story line tugged at my heart strings more than a little. I hope the third wheel can find happiness in book four. It will make my heart happy. The usually fun loving, slightly perverse, but equally adorable character is pining, and my heart aches for them. That’s what I call great character development.

Now, for the bit that I know everyone is interested in- the steamy romance. Ho ho ho, does it spice up to another level or does it spice up to another level?! It wouldn’t be a paranormal romance with out the paranormal and the romance, right? There are more hunky men for Izzy to ogle, and West makes light work of the steamy scenes between Izzy and Lucas. You want to know more? Then, get the book!

In summary, another brilliantly woven tale with the right dose of action, paranormal, and hotties. What more could you want? My favourite paranormal series of 2016!

Dawning is available for pre-order:  preorder your copy here. Release date: 29th April 2016.

Review: Victor by Brianna West (Advanced Reader Copy)

Victor (Guardians in Love Book One) by Brianna West 5/5 (No Spoilers)

15175432_1339017506149663_1417065826_nBrianna West has done it again- created another steamy, action packed novel of the paranormal and supernatural genre. Victor is part of a spin off series, Guardians in Love, that has stemmed from West’s Promiscus Guardians series. Although, we learnt a little bit about Victor in the Promiscus Guardians series, he isn’t the main character or love interest, so this spin off series has satisfied my need to peek inside Victor’s head.

Lilly’s character is perfectly flawed, and Victor has an open sense of self that he does not shy away from. All character’s are well developed, and their story arcs polished.

If you are a fan of supernatural/ paranormal romance, you do not want to miss out on this novel. West’s love interests have the ability to make the reader swoon, and the healthy dose of action fueled narrative ensures that the reader is engaged from start to finish.

I read Victor in a day! Yep, one day. I believe this to be testament to how captivating West’s writing style is. The easy to read writing style, engaging narrative, and brooding romance has earned my 5/5 rating.

Review: Awakening by Brianna West

Awakening (Promiscus Guardians Book One) by Brianna West 5/5

15139248_1339024986148915_932900253_nBlurb:

Izzy is on the fast track to nowhere. Being ordinary really blew sometimes. That’s until she meets Lucas–a man that’s unlike anyone she’s ever met. Mostly because he isn’t actually a man. He is a supernatural creature that proclaims to police the Light and Dark in order to protect humans.

And Izzy–well–she isn’t the human she thought she was. She is actually a supernatural being as well. And now Lucas is going to do everything in his power to find out what she is and protect her from the Dark lurking around the corner.

Awakening follows Izzy as she navigates this new world of demons, vampires, angels, and many other supernatural creatures. Recruited by the Promiscus Guardians and partnering with the most brooding and devilishly handsome man she’s every met, Lucas, Izzy is suddenly knee-deep up crap creek. Discover the secret behind her power and why it’s such a commodity in her Awakening.

Review:

Where should I start? If like me you are a fan of supernatural/ paranormal romances, then look no further than this book. There was dangerously, deviant doses of the paranormal, hunks, action, and steamy romance. Did I mention the hunks? Every box was checked!

I loved Izzy as a character. She stayed true to self, and had a stubborn streak which I like in female protagonists. Lucas was a little bit perfect- half angel, half vampire, oldy worldy with dialogue that matched perfectly. There was a refreshing true sense of self in all the characters.

The fast paced narrative fitted the genre perfectly, and kept the pages turning. The ‘will it happen’ story line between Izzy and Lucas was equally frustrating and engaging. Having the main love interest holding back was different, but made for a compelling read.

I’m a lover of action and this book had that a plenty- warring arch-demons, angels, faeries, and many other creations kept the narrative lively and inventive. Teaming that with an easy to read writing style, and vivid descriptions, I am definitely looking forward to book two.

It is easy for this genre of narrative to become cliched and out-dated, but Awakening was ‘unputdownable‘. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, hence the 5/5 rating.
